Re-Composed Environment re-contextualises environmental sound from widely recognised methods in fixed-media collage composition as a real-time generative site-specific work. Using a live input located in the surrounding sound environment, sound data is manipulated and creates a generative composition unique to the environmental space. Variables such as weather conditions and the Christchurch City’s soundscape cause the music to dynamically change with its environment. The installation becomes a musically temporal being in itself. This work seeks not to record the city, but to musically co-exist alongside and amongst it.
